If I had a dollar for every time I heard the question: “Tammy, how do you stay motivated to work out as often as you do?” … then I’d be a very rich girl (Okay that’s a lie, I would probably have a small fortune, hehehe) Anyway, I’ve decided to pen 5 quick and easy tips on staying motivated to achieve your fitness goals.
1. Just start! “I’ll start next Monday”, “I’ll start when I find matching socks”, “I’ll start when I can go to the supermarket and buy all the veggies and chicken breast that I can eat.” “I’ll start……..” Quit making excuses and start today. No really, TODAY! I work out at 6am 6 times a week, your schedule may not allow you to work out at 6am or to consistently stick to one set time but that’s not important make the time and start today.
2. Get a schedule. They say it takes 21 days to make anything a habit. Get a fitness program and schedule that extends beyond 21 days! A fitness program is a good way to form a habit. It’s easier to stick to get up and work out if you already know what you are going to do on that particular day. Using a plan made by someone else may be the easiest way to achieve your fitness goal without extra planning. There are a bunch of fitness programs on YouTube etc., get on one and stick to the schedule. PRO TIP: you can get a trainer who will be able to set up a schedule and workout plan for you! Your trainer may even hold you accountable ensuring that you crush those fitness goals.
3. Figure out your fitness goal. We all know the saying “a year from now you will be glad you started today”. So, whats your goal? How do you want to look at feel a year from now? Write it on a sticky note and put it on your mirror. Focus on your why factor? Why do you want to make fitness your lifestyle? (SIDE NOTE: It’s important that you are patient with yourself, notice that I said a year from now. NOT how you would like to look next week! )
4. Invest in your workout gear. I feel a sense of pride when my leggings fit just right, or my sport bra gives me the right amount of support, or when I jump into a cute but practical sneaker. The truth is when we feel good we are inspired to push a little more. Invest in your workout gear, even for your home workouts and you will feel better about getting that workout in. Reputed brands understand the need of right gym wear and design their apparels accordingly to provide you with the desired benefits. They understand that your workout clothes are as important as having water at regular intervals during your workout sessions. So read reviews, ask for recommendations and should your budget allow get something you like!
5. BONUS TIP: Surround yourself with people who are on the same fitness path that you are about to jump on. We all know the saying: your vibe affects your tribe (for the Gen-Z and us millennials), bad association spoils useful habits (for the bible peeps), and a rotten tomato spoils the whole bunch (for my older folk). When you apply this to fitness it basically says it’s so much easier to stay on your fitness path if your association is encouraging you to do the same. So jump on Instagram and follow some accounts that inspire fitness! Follow some accounts that sell cute fitness gear and follow some accounts that remind you to eat healthy! Because your social media is also a part of your association.
Your turn! Add something to the list!
Learn, laugh, and pour me a glass of wine!
XOXO
Tammy!
